Tietronix Awarded NASA Phase III SBIR Contract to Automate NASA Flight and Mission Operations Software Processes

HOUSTON, Texas, September 14, 2007 – Tietronix Software, a leading software provider of engineering process automation solutions has been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase III contract by NASA.   The contract will be performed in support of NASA Johnson Space Center’s Mission Operations and Engineering Directorates.   Over the next eighteen months Tietronix will be extending the capabilities of their Software Developer’s Assistant  (SDA) process enactment platform and implement a wide variety of software processes to be used by the two directorates.  SDA supports NASA’s Vision for Space Exploration through the increased efficiency and streamlining of software project operations in a best practice based compliant fashion.

This NASA SBIR Phase III Commercialization award follows previous SBIR Phase I and II awards resulting in the creation of the SDA software process automation product.

SDA is a software process enactment platform that guides software teams through their project specific standards, processes and procedures.  Software projects are decomposed into all of their required process steps or tasks.  Each task is assigned to project personnel.  SDA orchestrates the performance of work required to complete all project tasks in the correct sequence.  SDA notifies team members when they may begin work on their assigned tasks and then provides all of the tools, instructions, reference materials, and supportive artifacts which allow users to efficiently and compliantly perform their work.  SDA’s flexibility allows for the modeling, tailoring and automation of any software process to be used collaboratively by engineering teams that are geographically distributed.

“The unique ability of SDA to coordinate and automate software project activities between different organizations, such as ‘Quality Assurance’ and ‘Engineering’ and automatically capture project metric information provides some exciting opportunities for the future of NASA type mission critical software projects”, said Michel Izygon – the Chief Technology Officer for Tietronix.  “SDA significantly reduces much of the process overhead tied to mandated NASA Procedural Requirements for software projects and provides NASA a baseline of automatically collected process data from which it is easy to apply these objective process metrics to continually improve the software process.”
